What is Round Table Pizza?

Round Table Pizza is just one of the few popular pizza restaurants today that have served customers for many years at an outstanding level. Famous for its scrumptious oven-fresh pies, this restaurant manages to stay successful in the business despite the trend of shifting to more economical methods of production. No wonder customers love this place for its high regard to quality and authenticity.

Labor of Love

Inspired by the company's slogan, Round Table Pizza commits itself to the highest standards in pizzeria business. Unlike the other restaurants with the same specialty, Round Table makes its pizzas from the scratch-rolling the dough, chopping the veggies and preparing fresh meat toppings. The dough itself comes from the exclusively-grown wheat which is only used for this purpose. If you are wondering what makes the cheeses so delicious, then you should know that they are made from a combination of aged cheddar, whole milk mozzarella and provolone cheeses.

Such dedication to quality is the key to Round Table's success. Other pizzerias might think that the daily manual labor is hampering the productivity of the restaurant, but not this company. Actually, it is through this time-consuming and physically taxing method that Round Table is preferred by many customers.

The Birth of an Honest Pizzeria

It was 51 years ago when William Larson founded the first Round Table in Menlo Park, California. What started out as a small pizza parlor is now a thriving chain of more than 500 restaurants all over the US. The brand is similarly successful in the international market.

The Legend Has It

Interestingly, Round Table Pizza has a curious story of the origin of its name. It was in 1961 when a friend of Larson made some sketches of the knights eating pizza at King Arthur's fabled Round Table. Soon after, the owner adopted the Arthurian legend in its restaurant theme. By 1970s, the famous three shields have started to appear in its official logo.

But the medieval theme is not restricted to the atmosphere of the Round Table restaurants. In fact, the menu includes varieties of pizza named after the characters of the Arthurian legend. There's the King Arthur's Supreme pizza that combines all three meats, cheeses and other premium garnishes. As it turns out, it is the pizzeria's ultimate bestseller. There is also the Guinevere's Garden Delight named after the English queen. It has several vegetables for toppings.

Aside from the hero and heroine of the Middle Ages, there are also some pizza themes inspired by other literary influences such as the famous Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. The Montague's All Meat Marvel represents an all-Italian meat pizza. Another variety of round pie is the Maui Zaui which has a similar taste as a regular Hawaiian pizza, although a little more generous in toppings.

Be Your Own Pizza Maker

Round Table gives you an option to create your very own pizza. If you want to try something new on your next visit, you may skip the specialty pizzas and choose your favorite combinations of crust, meat, cheese and veggies. It is up to you to combine the ingredients as you wish. At Round Table Pizza, the toppings are generously spread over the hand-made crusts. While deciding on the type of pizza you want, be sure to test out Round Table coupons to save on your big purchase, because saving a little can go a long way!

Spinach is a dark leafy green vegetable and they are the healthiest types containing not just vitamins, minerals and many other nutrients, but a lot of fiber as well. Eating a lot of dark green leafy vegetables Oatmeal, Cereals, and Whole-grain Bread

Oatmeal has so much fiber that if you take five to ten grams a day, you lower the bad cholesterol in your system. Other fiber rich foods such as cereals and whole grain bread are also ideal diet staples because they have a lot of iron and Vitamin B as well. Yes to Health by Eating Healthy Organic Food By Wadner Tranchant

With the current lifestyle we have these days, there is no question why more and more people are looking for ways to keep fit and healthy despite all the stress, irregular meals and unhealthy fast food chains luring them to keep up with the fast-paced life. But with the flourishing number of organic food stores, there might be hope yet for all of us.

Organic Food: The what?s and the why?s

Organic foods are, principally, produced without the involvement of any modern man-made inputs such as chemical fertilizers and synthetic pesticides. A natural organic food is not processed with the use of industrial solvents, chemical additives or irradiation. Most people believe that foods that are grown organically are much safer, tastes better and are more nutritious compared to those grown in a conventional manner. With such belief, the demand for this type of produce has increased despite being quite costly.

Taste Better?

There is a 2009 literature review that held most studies have shown that conventional food and natural organic food taste the same. There is no noteworthy difference on the taste between the two types of foods. However, there are some well-designed researches regarding vegetables and fruits that show a more favourable vote on organic produce. It has been found out that an organic fruit is much drier than that grown conventionally. With such, the flavouring substance is much concentrated, thus giving it a more intense taste.

Step up and be Healthy!

Changing your eating habits may be time-consuming and tricky at first. You need to chuck out that junk food habit and lift up the nutritional knowledge. Take time to read labels and identifying organic foods. The most crucial part is to get those taste buds on your side! Give them some time to take pleasure in the natural tastes because loving natural organic food is the secret to eating healthy.

? Keep your refrigerator and kitchen pantry healthy. Stash organic and healthy foods instead of your usual junk, instant foods and microwave dinners. Help yourself to eat unprocessed foods and fresh foods such as organic raw veggies and fruits. Check the labels if they contain the USDA certification.

? It would be better if you cook your meals so you will know what you are eating. You don?t need to prepare exotic recipes (but if you can, why not?).

? Plan your meals in advance. Writing them down on a piece of paper helps you stick to your organic diet. There are several healthy recipes available on the internet, try checking them out to have variety.

? If you have time, why not grow your own organic farm? All you need to remember is to keep everything natural - no synthetics. You eat what you grow. More natural, much healthier! But if you do not have the time and place, check the organic food stores near your place. Eating organic is beneficial for everyone.

? It helps keep you healthy.

? It helps keep the farmers healthy since they won?t be exposed to pesticides and chemical fertilizers.

? It helps keep the animals healthy. No more exposure to chemical vitamins, antibiotics and growth hormones.

? It keeps our environment healthy. So say yes to health! Start eating healthy organic food.

Gluten Free Baking, A Journey into New Territory By Chris Rawstern

Gluten-Free foods are taking their place in the world these days. We are all becoming more aware of gluten, gluten intolerance, celiac (or coeliac) disease, and what this means for so many people. While I am not gluten intolerant, I often cook and bake for functions, locally. Last year I was asked to provide little treats for a Princess Party, put on by the Dacotah Prairie Museum. Accompanied by a queen, little girls from tots to teens were invited, to learn about the lives of real princesses. They were taught how to wave properly, and curtsey.

Little girls hear the word princess and go dreamy-eyed. The program was sold out. I made lots of little treats, but found out one of the little princesses and her queen were gluten intolerant, and could not partake of many of the little treats. This was an intolerable state of affairs. I decided I needed to learn about this disease, be aware of what was involved, and provide alternatives that would be tasty and exciting.

Over the past year, I have been trying out different gluten-free flour mixtures, and making lots of goodies, mainly from my own normal recipes, converted by simply substituting gluten-free flour and adding xanthan gum. In the main, they have been a whopping success. In my honest opinion, as someone who has been baking for 42 years, some of the cakes, fruit or nut loaves turn out more moist and tender than when made with wheat flour, a very happy discovery, without a doubt. The queen mentioned above, works at the museum, so I took an afternoon to talk with this young woman and learn more about what was involved. I also had baked one of my favorite coffeecake recipes, gluten-free and took it for her and the museum staff to try. They all loved it, moist and tender and full of flavor. The young woman was happy with my experiment, as was I.

Another great help along the way was finding Shauna Aherns Gluten Free Girl website. I have studied her site extensively and learned all sorts of things there. I mixed up her gluten-free flour mixture to experiment with, as well as trying out one of her bread recipes; another success. I took some of the bread for the woman at the museum to sample, as well as a slice I slathered with homemade pesto and cheese and broiled. She exclaimed, This is the best bread I have tasted since going gluten free.

This coffeecake recipe was given to me by my best friend of 54 years, and is a terrific recipe, no matter which flour you choose. This is the original recipe, for gluten-free, I substituted a gluten-free flour mixture made up of 6 cups brown rice flour, 2 cups potato starch and 1 cup tapioca starch. I used this mixture measure for measure in this recipe, and added 1 teaspoon of xanthan gum to the sifted dry ingredients. Be sure to check the labels of ingredients for hidden wheat when making this Gluten Free.

Bundt Coffeecake

1 cup unsalted butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts; walnuts or pecans are good
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream the butter and sugar until light. Add the eggs, sour cream and vanilla and mix well. Sift together flour, soda, baking powder and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix well. Grease a 10-inch tube or bundt pan.

Mix together the chopped nuts, the 2 teaspoons sugar and the cinnamon. Sprinkle 1/2 of this topping into the greased pan. Put in half the batter - this requires plopping small spoonfuls of the batter into the pan as the batter is very thick. Then carefully smooth it to fill in any gaps. Tapping the pan on the countertop helps. Pour on the rest of the topping and again plop spoonfuls into the pan till all batter is used.

Bake for 1 hour, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool on a rack for 10 minutes before removing from pan. Sprinkle powdered sugar over the cake if desired. Serves 12 to 16.

GLUTEN-FREE OPTION: Replace the flour with your preferred gluten-free flour mixture and add in 1 teaspoon xanthan gum. Mix and bake as directed. Sometimes baking is a little bit longer than normal, but since the texture and moistness is so wonderful, I can wait those few more minutes.
Try this recipe, either way, and you will not be sorry.

Thank you for taking the time to read my article. I hope it was informative and helped you along your own culinary journey. You will find many more recipes and helpful tips on my web site. I am on Facebook at A Harmony of Flavors and share a recipe or tip each day to the fans that have liked my site. I hope to see you there soon.

Understanding the concept of Foccacia as a part of Italian cuisine (Jim Doyle)

I thought I had seen it all until I encountered their cuisine. Before my visit to Italy I had been relegated to simply reading about how good Italian cuisine was and seeing it in the movies. On my visit to Italy I was therefore keen to try and understand what the fuss was about anyway. One of the people I was with in Italy introduced me to Foccacia and I have to admit, ever since then I have never really been able to find anything better tasting. I therefore embarked on a mission to find out how this wonderful bread was made and how it became a part of the Italian culture from the start.

The word Foccacia actually has its origins from the Latin word 'focus' which simply means "hearth, place for baking". In the Roman days, Panis Focacius was a kind of flat bread that was baked on the hearth. It is thought that the recipe for this bread was actually thought out by the Greeks. However, many people associate the recipe with the Ligurian cuisine. Over time, it became apparent that the knowledge of the recipe spread and many people began to take to making this bread. A variation in the ingredients meant that as people moved from one place to another they would probably come across different recipes but all leading to a similar outcome.

Since there were many little towns on the coast of Liguria, it emerged that each town had a different manner of making the Foccacia based on the ingredients that were available to them. In some places, the bread was even considered to be some kind of cake. In some places it had with more softness owing to the oil and in other places it had biscuit-like hardness because of the Camogli. There were actually some places where the ingredients were totally different from the original recipe and the similarities with the original bread were very minimal.

I actually realized that in places like Genoa and Recco, the recipe for this bread is so different but the name is almost the same. The Foccacia that is made in these towns has a filling of cheese usually sandwiched between two layers of the dough that is almost paper-thin. There are parts of North Western Italy where the recipe for the preparation of this bread entails sprinkling of sugar onto the base of the bread. Also, there is usually an addition of honey, raisins and a shot of other ingredients that are sweet.

I learnt that across the whole of Italy, there are various formats in which the Foccacia exists and some of the various types include Barese which is found in places like Taranto, Brindisi, Bari and Lecce. There is also Alla Genovese which is very popular in Genoa and then there is Alla Barese which is mostly from the area of Bari.

If you want to find more interesting recipes such as the one for focaccia, then you can consider a visit to this website.

Cookie Making Made Easy My Busy Mom Method By Chris Rawstern

In the early 1970s, when I was very young and with small children to care for, I had a few cookie recipes I would make very often, because they were simple recipes, with ingredients I usually had at hand. Cookies are a terrific snack, don?t require utensils to pick up and eat and can be made ahead for a party. However, even with all that, they are just not my favorite things to make, because they need to be made either by dropping individually onto the baking sheet, rolling out and cutting (making a mess on the counter and more cleanup), or the often added step of having to chill the dough before working. I like immediacy. I want to mix up a recipe, bake it, clean up and be done.

One morning I made a batch of these cookies, finally popped the last pan in the oven, and set the timer. Itching to get outside for a bit and see what the children were doing, I went out and got distracted. By the time I remembered the cookies in the oven, they had burnt and shrunken down to tiny little black hockey pucks - not even the dogs had any interest in them! It pays not to get distracted when baking. This was the last straw. I had to think of a better way.

I came up with a brilliant idea that I call my Busy-Mom-Method one I use to this day. Rather than take the time to make all the individual cookies by batches, with separate baking times (and time to get distracted), I would roll the cookie dough directly onto a greased baking sheet, working it evenly to the edges and baking it as one large cookie. It is best to use a baking sheet that has three open sides, as it is simpler to maneuver the rolling pin and get the cookie rolled evenly. Keep in mind also, that a little more flour may be needed in the dough to allow for lifting it out and forming into a rough rectangle for rolling. Also, a little extra flour over the surface while rolling helps to keep the rolling pin from sticking. Try not to add any more flour than absolutely necessary, or the cookies will come out denser and harder.

It takes a few minutes more in the oven with one large cookie, but it comes out perfectly. Just watch for the edges to be golden, and the center to be set. With these cookies, I also make a simple icing that is just 1 1/2 cups of confectioners sugar, a pinch of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla and enough water or milk to make a relatively thick consistency (very slow to fall from the spoon). Spread this over the hot cookie straight from the oven. The hot cookie warms the icing, making it melt and spread easily, using the back of the same spoon I used to mix the icing. I am all for less cleanup! Once the cookie cools, the icing dries and hardens, and I just cut the large cookie into small bar or square shapes, and voila, cookies in half the time. Two of my favorite recipes for this method were Hermits and Simple Vanilla Cookies. If you are a busy mom, try this method with any simple cookie dough. The Hermit cookies had raisins in them, but the thickness of the dough was no less than the thickness of the raisins, so it still worked well.
Simple Vanilla Cookies

Makes about 7 dozen

1 cup unsalted butter
2/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add vanilla and salt. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Stir in flour, mixing well. Drop from a teaspoon 2 inches apart on a greased cookie sheet. Flatten with floured, flat-bottomed glass. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove immediately from pan.

These Simple Vanilla Cookies are incredibly good, from such a simple recipe. Don't take my word - try them out, either as individual cookies, or with my busy-mom-method.

Tea the Real Story By Chris Rawstern

Everyone knows what tea is, right? Tea, technically, comes from the leaves of one plant, camellia sinensis. Anything other than the leaves from this plant is not actually tea, although tea is often used as a catchall word to include all the different herbal beverages used these days.

Legend has it that tea was discovered long ago in China quite by accident. Some leaves from a nearby plant blew into a cup of hot water; a nice brown colored beverage resulted, was found to have a refreshing taste, and tea was born. However it was discovered, tea is very refreshing, whether it is black, green, oolong or white. Tea has been proven in more recent times to have wonderful health benefits. We have all heard of antioxidants in tea, helping to fight free radicals that can cause harm to the body. Tea is far lower in caffeine than coffee. It is refreshing, whether used hot or cold.

There are various types of tea, all beginning with the same leaves. Black tea is created by bruising or crushing the green leaves to expose them to oxidation and allowing them to ferment, then rolling the leaves and drying. This produces a beautifully colored beverage and has the strongest flavor of all the varieties of tea. Oolong tea (pronounced OH-long) is oxidized and fermented the same as black tea, but only for about half the amount of time and the resulting product is a lighter, more reddish beverage with a flavor all its own, somewhere in strength between black tea and green tea. For green tea, the leaves are heated immediately, stopping the fermentation process entirely, then dried and rolled. It produces a lovely light colored beverage, and is said to have the most health benefits. The processing of white tea is similar to that of green tea, but only the unopened buds of the leaves are used. It has the same health properties as green tea, but the flavor is the lightest and most delicate.

Good quality tea is a wonderful beverage. Whole rolled or twisted leaves are the best quality; the smaller the leaf, the higher the quality of the tea. The top grades are called Flowery, Golden Flowery or Tippy. Seconds, termed Choppy, are the leaves that have broken into smaller pieces. They brew a great tea, and are usually less expensive. The smallest particles leftover from the tea process, called Fannings, are what is used in tea bags. It brews tea of course, but once tasting a tea brewed from a wonderful full leaf Darjeeling Black Tea, for example, it is hard to return to a tea bag for optimal flavor.

Orange Pekoe (rhymes with gecko) is a western terminology applied to a grade of black tea; the word orange in the name has nothing to do with flavor, but could be a reference to the Dutch House of Orange using the name Orange as an implied sea" of some sort. Pekoe may be a westernized interpretation for a Chinese word meaning white hairs, referring to the fine white down on the tea leaves.

So, what are herbal beverages called? Herbal beverages are called tisanes, and may be prepared by different methods, usually infusion or decoction. It is incorrect to apply the term tea to anything infused or decocted, although tea is actually infused. Infusion is the preparation method of choice for leaves, flowers or buds; plant matter that will release its properties easily into a drinkable beverage. Placed into heated or boiled water and allowed to steep, the herbs release their goodness into the water, and then are strained out. Decoction is the method used for harder or denser plant materials, such as roots or barks that take longer to release their flavors or health benefits. With a decoction, the plant materials are brought to a boil, simmered gently for 15 minutes or more allowing the liquid to reduce, and then straining.

No matter which you prefer, tea or tisane, for pure enjoyment or for health benefits, look for the best quality. Discover your favorites among the different types of loose teas. Taste the different herbal tisanes and discover new flavors. Above all, enjoy.

Seafood Restaurants Range from Casually Inexpensive to High-End Gourmet (Jhon Smith Ben)

Restaurants that serve seafood range from inexpensive fast-food drive-thrus to high-end, four star dining, and everything in between. Serving fresh or frozen seafood, seafood restaurants offer many choices to diners. The diner may choose a restaurant right at the ocean's edge or a chain restaurant located in the middle of a desert. The likelihood of being served frozen seafood rises with the distance from the ocean. Fresh seafood is readily available in coastal cities, although chains may still serve the frozen variety as designated by corporate structure.

Fresh seafood is a favorite of coastal dwellers. Many local people are familiar with fresh seafood markets that also cook their freshly caught offerings. The markets serve the cooked food in seating areas right outside the market doors. Al fresco dining is popular in many port cities. Frequently, the fishing boat that caught the seafood is visible from the dining area. This is usually an inexpensive way to enjoy the sea's bounty, while getting some fresh air and enjoying the local cooking. Walk-up kiosks that serve fresh seafood are found in many cities around the world. Word of mouth advertising keeps these small informal restaurants in business. Tourists visiting these areas have been known to ask for directions to such seafood restaurants. Local people are usually happy to provide the names and locations of these establishments, where the day's catch is prepared immediately. Spreading the good word about a seafood market helps ensure that the market will stay in business for the locals to enjoy.

Chain restaurants that offer previously frozen seafood are popular in many areas. People who enjoy seafood, but live a considerable distance from an ocean, rely on the frozen offerings, and are happy to order them. The cooks rely on recipes and techniques that have been researched and developed by corporate chefs. While the seafood comes to the restaurant frozen, it retains much of its nutritional goodness. Those who consider frozen seafood inferior have probably not tried it in recent years. Frozen seafood, especially shellfish, is sometimes difficult to distinguish from fresh, especially if it is prepared correctly. Chain restaurants that offer seated dining may be heavily reliant on frozen seafood; however, most offer a fresh catch of the day, no matter their geographic location.

A step up in offering fresh seafood is a sit-down restaurant with a menu and waitstaff. Many times, the seafood offered in these casual restaurants is fixed in a specific way. The chef may specialize in grilled fish or broiled shellfish, for instance. Others may offer fried fish or kebobs. Fish stews are another popular choice. Many times these fresh seafood restaurants are owned and operated by the chef. His menu may be highly regarded in the community. These restaurants are not part of a chain. Their success is dependent on offering the freshest of seafood in a tasty manner.

Fine dining seafood restaurants and dining establishments rely almost exclusively on freshly caught seafood that is frequently flown to their restaurant directly from the fishing boats. If the catch of the day is sufficiently iced, it can make a multi-hour trip without losing any of its freshness and tastiness. The chefs in fine dining restaurants have a way of making even the most humble fish or shellfish a gourmet delight. Special sauces or cooking techniques may be employed to enhance the flavor of the seafood. Prime fish, such as high quality tuna, is frequently made into sushi. These raw fish offerings are highly sought after. A good sushi chef can offer a tender, fully flavored morsel that will please even the most discriminating palate.

Many restaurants, which are not specifically designated as seafood restaurants, offer fish, shrimp, oysters, and other seafood items on their menus. Even high-end steakhouses will frequently offer a 'catch of the day,' a fresh fish that has been rushed to the restaurant via air. Many people, who enjoy eating fish rather than beef or pork, will still go to a steakhouse to be in the company of their friends. Chefs and management gladly offer fresh seafood for these discriminating diners.

While small, independent seafood restaurants found near coastal waters may offer the freshest fish, tasty menu offerings are available nearly everywhere.

Tasty And Healthy Szechuan Peppercorns (Kaleb Matteo)

Peppercorns have become a fundamental articulation of everybody's diet and are used by people of all nationalities, caste and religion. Most of the recipes are incongruous without peppercorns and sea salts, which adds a flavour to the food. Peppercorns are not only used to appease the tongue, but it is also contemplated as a pivotal health component. Peppercorns are indeed essential to all food types, including Indian, Italian, American, etc. Szechuan Peppercorns are quite different from the black peppercorns and are generally tangy in flavour. Black peppercorns are highly spicy, and Szechuan Peppercorns are less piquant in comparison with other peppers.

Szechuan Peppercorns is considered to be one of the most popular peppercorns in the world. Such peppercorns however, need to be looked after perfectly. It should be pertinently refined and processed before being sent in the market and retail shops. Peppercorns contain an outer shell that seals the callowness and exquisiteness of the pepper. The quality of the pepper decreases precipitately as soon as the shell is thrown away. Its peerless gusto and essence can facilely vanish within an hour or maybe in a month. Therefore the befitting processing of peppercorns is exigent and requires the A-1 execution and artistry.

There is a mountainous variety of peppercorn varying from black to green. The different types of peppercorns are green peppercorns, red or pink or rose peppercorns, black peppercorn white peppercorns, Szechuan Peppercorns etc. The various classifications of black peppercorns are Sarawak Black, Malabar, Tellicherry, Kampot, Madagascar, Talamanca De Caribe Pohnpei, Vietnamese and Penja Black. White pepper is often used in soups, beverages, sauces and potatoes. The white peppercorn features Penja White, Sarawak, Talamanca De Caribe and Muntok. White pepper however, requires much more processing than the black ones and are thus, comparatively costlier. Szechuan Peppercorn is the most used peppercorn after black pepper. It has the ability to allure and satisfy the tongue or the taste buds of human beings.

Szechuan Peppercorns are a source of all healthy components such as phosphorous, copper, iron, selenium, potassium, zinc, thiamin, carotenes, vitamin A and pyridoxine. Szechuan Peppercorns are almost similar to black peppercorns in terms of tackling digestive problems. It is beneficial for people who want to cut down the fat and help in increasing the gastro-intestinal juice that is located in the gut. It is also used in medicines related to stomachic, carminative, expectorant, tonic, anti-spasmodic, digestive and anti-septic. Szechuan Peppercorns are indeed a box of preeminent sources such as minerals, anti-oxidants, essential oils and vitamins. Processing ...

Better Nutrition With Homemade Soup By Gretchen Scalpi, Rd, Cde

Many of my clients tell me how much they like having soup for lunch in the colder months, but most of the time, they name off various brands of soups bought at the store. Don't get me wrong: many commercial soups are great options for the calorie conscious. The problem with canned soups, of course, is the sodium content. Some products have an excess of 1,000 mg of sodium per serving. To my way of thinking, this is far too much salt for one simple food item. So while it's easy to turn to grocery store shelves for your lunchtime soup, consider making your own soup.

The beauty of homemade soup is that you can literally take any basic soup recipe and modify it based on ingredients you have on hand. You can make adjustments and get the sodium content reduced without foregoing good taste. Most soups start with a stock, broth, or a vegetable base. You can make your own stock if you have the time, but starting with a ready made broth can cut down on preparation time. If you buy ready made soup broth, I recommend that you read the labels carefully. Regular broth will make your homemade version of soup just as high in sodium as canned soup. The low sodium versions of broth have sodium too! I found that most of the "low sodium" brands of broth had close to 500 mg. sodium per serving. This is still too much if you are sodium conscious. I found several organic low sodium stocks with just 140 mg. per serving, so it pays to look around.

If you want to try making homemade soup for your lunches, here's an idea: make one batch pot of a different soup every week. Keep enough of the soup on hand for one or two meals, and then freeze the rest in smaller containers, preferably 1-2 portion containers. If you make a different kind of soup each week, you will soon have a "selection"of different soups in your freezer that you can choose from for a quick lunch or dinner meal. Take a single serving of frozen soup to work and you'll have a nice healthful meal ready to heat up.

Here is my favorite vegetable soup recipe:

Vegetable Barley Soup

2 Tb. olive oil

1 cup chopped onion

1 cup diced carrots

12 oz. fresh mushrooms chopped

1/2 cup barley (use pearl or hulless barley)

6 cups low sodium beef, chicken or vegetable broth

1/2 tsp coarse salt

2-3 cups chopped spinach, kale or Swiss chard

Heat oil in large pot and saut? onions and carrots until tender. Add mushrooms and cook for another 2 minutes. Add barley, low sodium broth and salt. Bring to a boil, and then reduce heat to simmer until barley is done. (Pearl barley takes about 40 minutes; hulless barley takes about 60 minutes to cook). Add chopped greens and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Serves 6.

Professional and Amateur Restaurant Reviews Point the Way to the Best in Dining Out (Jhon Smith Ben)

A well-written restaurant review can inform the reader about everything from the quality of the food and the ethnicity of the offerings to the service one can expect to receive at any given restaurant. A good review cites both the best and worst about a particular eating establishment or chain of restaurants. An in-depth restaurant review can discuss the chef's particular specialties and his history in the food business. Reviews of fine dining establishments may also include commentary about a restaurant's wine selection. Many professional restaurant reviewers seem to know as much about a particular chef as they do about the food offerings in his restaurant. This may include personal information, such as the chef's age, where he has previously worked, and whether or not he owns the restaurant being reviewed.

Historically, newspapers had a food column that was written by a food critic. Many of these food writers became quite famous for their reviews of traditional and highly regarded restaurants. Some restaurant reviewers, or food critics, were relied on heavily for their opinions. Elite society would choose, for one reason or another, a particular critic to espouse. Restaurants would 'live or die' by the opinions of these reviewers. If a review was negative, commerce at the restaurant would decline. Conversely, a rave review could bring throngs of faithful readers to the establishment.

Today, restaurant reviews can be written by nearly anyone with a computer or a smart phone. Special applications make it easy to disseminate information about a restaurant, even while one is eating at the establishment. Social media, like Facebook and Twitter, handles many restaurant reviews, as well. It doesn't take a special 'restaurant review' app to share one's opinion. Most people happily share their opinions about food, service, ambience, and prices. While a particular person's opinion may not have the impact of an old-fashioned restaurant reviewer's column in a newspaper, popular opinion can 'make or break' a restaurant. And, today's casual restaurant reviewer doesn't need to be particularly knowledgeable about cooking techniques, ingredients, or the chef's personal life. A casual reviewer simply calls up the appropriate app, and states what he likes or doesn't like about an eating establishment. Then he can immediately publish that opinion for millions of people to read.

The internet is becoming an important source for restaurant reviews. Professional restaurant and food critics publish reviews regularly on their websites. Both amateur and professional reviewers write blogs or lead discussion forums. Foodies, those people who truly enjoy eating and dining out, can be avid readers of a particular reviewer's or critic's blog. They also contribute to discussion forums, with reviews or questions of their own. Shows have been created that are seen only on the internet. Many of these address a particular subject, such as frozen food or ethnic cuisine. While they are not restaurant reviews, per se, these shows are entertaining and educational. They provide a learning environment for the viewer to discover facts previously unknown. This knowledge translates into better casual reviews, if the viewer enjoys sharing.

Restaurant reviews can be presented in numerous ways, from lengthy discourses on the food to a simple rating system that doesn't require much reading. Professional reviewers tend to write in-depth articles about particular restaurants. They may share these writings online or in print publications. Casual reviewers may be more inclined to use a rating system app to comment on a restaurant. It is a simple matter to go to a smart phone app and choose stars or numbers to reflect the reviewer's opinion of a restaurant. Many of these apps have small sections for a few comments.

Finding a restaurant review is an easy task today. Whether the prospective diner is seated at his or her computer, or out looking for a good place to eat, information is easily accessible. Devoting a little time to online research can result in a wonderful evening's enjoyment of great food. Restaurant reviews can make consumer choices so much easier. Many people rely heavily on what their peers have to say about a restaurant. Others are interested only in professional restaurant reviewers' opinions. Either source makes the selection of a restaurant an enjoyable experience.

Top Three Diet Meals Low in Carbs for a Slimmer You By Wadner Tranchant

Carbohydrates are a staple in our diet and most people who are compelled to lessen their carbohydrate input find it very hard, especially those raised in rice-eating cultures to resort to low Carb Diet Meals. Even people who don?t eat rice but are used to having pasta and/or sandwiches twice or thrice a day have a difficulty letting the carbs go.

And since desserts are primarily carbohydrates as well, dieters are required to say goodbye to cake, ice cream and all other sweet and creamy wonders. But the fact is, to increase your chances of losing weight and keeping it off, you need to let go of starches and grains so that your body will resort to burning up the stored fat that?s causing the numbers to add up on the weighing scale.

The default option is to resort to greens and put together healthy salads. This is all good, but you need not sustain yourself merely with green tips and vinaigrette. Here are three balanced low-carb meals to keep your appetite up while your weight stays level on healthy on what is ideal for your height and built.

#1: Chicken Cordon Bleu

It is difficult to go wrong with this dish. It is flavorful and nutritious. And though it sounds rather sophisticated, it is not difficult at all to prepare. The ingredients needed are very basic?boneless (and skinless) chicken breasts, sliced cheese, ham slices, all purpose flour, cornstarch, olive oil, chicken bouillon, and white wine. You may also use spices such as paprika and other herbs that you like.

The chicken breast must be thin enough. Ham and cheese slices are placed on the chicken breast slices which are folded and secured with toothpick. The flour and spices are mixed and used to coat the chicken breast with filling. The alternative is to use bread crumbs to coat the assembly after a quick dip in egg.

Use extra virgin olive oil and fry the cordon bleu until brown. You can add the bullion and white wine and cook in low heat for 30 minutes. Let it simmer until the juices have evaporated. Mix the bowl and cornstarch in a bowl and whisk them together. Before serving, make sure that the toothpicks have already been removed and then pour the thickened sauce on the chicken.

#2: Pan-fried or Grilled Steak

A nice slab of beef that is pan-friend in extra-virgin olive oil or grilled on a cheery flame is one meal that will surely fight off hunger. And if you get good protein from an organic farm then you might even forget that you?re missing the huge side of potatoes or rice, if that?s what you prefer. This dish makes a good lunch or dinner. The mushrooms and peppers add carbs to the meal but the amount is almost insubstantial so you can add them as garnish.

#3: Grated cauliflower or veggie pasta instead of rice

Cauliflower that is grated may not taste like rice but is a great low-carb alternative. In fact, cauliflower almost has no carbs. You may use it as a rice substitute in all your meals.

Another great substitute for rice is pasta that is made from vegetables. This is widely available in health stores these days, and even in major grocery stores and supermarkets.

Low Carb Diet Meals are essential in your weight loss diet plan. Try out our recommendations and find out how delicious they are. They are also well balanced and thus very good for your overall health

Propane to Natural Gas - Is it Worth Converting Your BBQ Grill? By Les Fenton

If you set out to buy a BBQ grill today, one of the options facing you is whether to fuel it with propane or natural gas. But what if you already have a propane gas BBQ. Is it worthwhile converting it?

In this article we'll help you weigh up the pros and the cons.

The Relative Costs of Natural gas and Propane

Technical tests on both gases indicate that although natural gas is much less expensive than propane (by up to three or four times for one cubic foot) you?ll need twice as much to cook the same meal. But this is more than compensated for by the much lower cost of natural gas. However, that?s not the complete story.

Grill Conversion Costs

To change your grill from propane to natural gas you?ll also have to carry out a technical conversion. This conversion involves taking out your existing gas regulator and feed pipes and replacing these with similar items designed specifically for natural gas. The conversion process increases the flow of gas to your barbecue grill to compensate for the fact that natural gas produces less cooking heat than propane.

It's possible to carry out this conversion yourself, but this is not recommended because the work involved demands a certain level of technical skill. It?s much more sensible to employ the services of a natural gas technician who will also be able to install a patio gas supply point at the same time.

However, the conversion cost is likely to be quite high ? probably in the region of $100 -$200. Therefor, you may well decide that it?s more sensible to put this money towards the purchase cost of a new natural gas grill.

Other Factors to Consider

As well as weighing up the cost savings against the conversion costs you should also consider the following factors:

Factors against Conversion:

Grill Mobility - You?ll not be able to use your grill anywhere. You?re going to be restricted by the position of the natural gas supply point.

Taste - Natural gas contains a smelly substance called mercaptan. Its deliberately mixed with the gas so that you can tell if you've got a leak. Some people reckon that this substance imparts an unpleasant taste to the food. However, don?t get too hung up about this. It?s not a frequently voiced complaint.

Environmental Protection - Natural gas is not environmentally friendly. If it escapes into the atmosphere,it gets converted into other substances which are detrimental to it.

Factors for Conversion:

Convenience - Your fuel supply will be on tap and you won?t have to carry bottles of propane around anymore or change a bottle half-way through a BBQ.

Make a Choice. Propane or Natural Gas?

Hopefully my article will help you make a choice about whether to convert your grill or not. If you?re already using natural gas in the home this could be an opportunity to save money on the costs of operating your BBQ grill, but don?t forget those conversion costs. It may make more sense to wait until you need to purchase a new grill

"A secret admirer will soon send you a sign of affection. And so love blooms are begun by it and its credit would go to a Fortune Cookie. With more than 60 million fortune cookies made yearly, messages of love and inspiration are what we seek, even if the cookie crumbles. How do the strips get inside fortune cookies.

Whether this delightful end to a meal was devised in China, Japan or America is not known. There are four legends behind the cookie in the Marketing blog:

Legend One:

Some time in the 13th or 14th Century, Mongols occupied China. The patriotic revolutionary, Chu Yuan Chang planned an uprising against the Mongols. To keep his plan top secret and share the date of the event, messages were hidden in ""Moon Cakes"". Some say this legend inspired the Chinese 49ers who worked on the American Railway through Nevada to California. When the Moon Festival time was to be celebrated they had number ""Moon Cakes' and improvised with biscuits, How do the strips get inside fortune cookies in the Marketing blog.

Legend Two:

Meet Makoto Hagiwara, a Japanese immigrant and designer of the renowned Japanese Tea Garden at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco Bay Area, California. This legend gives credit to Hagiwara for inventing the History of fortune cookies in 1914. While doing work for an anti-Japanese Mayor, Hagiwara was fired. He endured great hardship until a later Mayor reinstated him after great public outcry. To show his gratitude for his supporters, Hagiwara created cookies that contained a little ""thank-you"" note inside. Their popularity grew and the fortune cookies were exhibited at the 1915 World Fair in San Francisco.

Legend Three:

Round the same time as Hagiwara, a Chinese immigrant by the name of David Jung, founder of the Hong Kong Noodle Company is thought to have devised the fortune cookie in 1918 in L. A., California.

Witnessing the unemployed and poverty near his store, he created a rolled up pastry and tucked inside an inspirational message published by way of a local Presbyterian Minister. Then handed the pastries out to give aspire to his ""neighbors"".

Legend Four:

Also in La, this legend could be the story of a Japanese-American baker named Seichi Kito. His cookies were created and inside he put haiku versus and sold the creations to Chinese restaurants.

To the day, Seichi Kito's bakery, Fugetsu-Do still remains part of L. A.' Little Tokyo and celebrated its 100th anniversary. Displayed prominently in Fugetsu-Do's window is the form purportedly used to make the initial cookies.

In 1964, Edward Louie of San Francisco's Lotus Fortune Cookie, devised a machine to make the cookies after being hired to make cookies that solicited ideas for a Pepsodent Toothpaste jingle.

Most people enjoy a fortune cookie - a wafer biscuit that some historians believe came from the 12th and 13th centuries. Macaroons are still popular as they were in the late 1700's with their crisp exterior and soft inside. Peanut butter cookies did perhaps not come on the scene until 1922, but remain a favorite among adults and kids alike. Chocolate chip cookies remain the greatest choice and they were introduced in 1937."

Preparing braised chicken

Take half of the garlic cloves and rub them over it to marinate it. Mash the balance garlic with the butter, the black pepper powder and the herbs. Spread this marinade throughout the chicken.
